Teen Programs
We
provide activities for teens that shape values and encourage life-long
community service. We help teens develop the skills they'll need
to become successful. While children ages 10 and older are allowed in the YMCA without an adult, it is required that children/teens behave at all times while in the facility.
Youth
& Government Model
Assembly
Join
other teens (grades 8-12) in the state as they learn about government
and empower their voices to be heard. This program teaches
individuals through research and practical application about government
(legislative, judicial, and executive branches). It provides leadership
roles to students and makes learning fun. The group will meet
periodically throughout the fall and then will convene for the
state convention in January in St. Paul, MN. Listen for announcements
at the different high schools or contact Robin
Chambers at 287-2260 ext. 332.
Teens Fitness at the Y
Youth that are 13 or older are allowed to utilize our Fitness Center and attend Group Exercise classes at the Y. Teens should sign up for their Free Quick Start in order to get one-on-one direction, equipment instruction, safety tips, and fitness recommendations from our trained staff. Quick Start appointments can be made by calling 507-287-2260 or by visiting the Fitness Center desk.
Teen
Swimming Lessons
Haven't
learned how to swim or would like to improve? Come swim with other
teens and learn the fundamentals of swim strokes, breathing, and much
more!
Karate
Training for Adults & Teens
Our
instructors teach a classical style of Karate developed on the
island of
Okinawa
the birthplace of all forms of true Karate. Our instructors hold
black
belt certificates in the Ryukyu Kempo style of Karate. Adults
will learn
the
basic techniques of blocking, punching, kicking, and efficient
forms of
self
defense. We place equal emphasis on the development of character
and
strive for the physical and spiritual development of the adult
students in
a
non-competitive atmosphere. The
class meets on both Saturday and
Wednesday.
For more information or questions, contact Robin Chambers.
Teen Leaders
The Y's fun leadership program
for students ages 13-16 gives teens an opportunity to learn about various aspects of
the Rochester Area Family Y while developing leadership skills,
meeting new
friends, and having fun. Currently our teen leaders program is active during the summer. If you would like more information, or would like to help start a Teen Leaders Program during the school year, please contact Jessica Wacek at 507-287-2260 ext 335.
