Y SPACE afterschool program: In the Y's afterschool program for 1st-12th graders, the Y provides a safe and fun environment where our community's diverse tweens and teens engage in activities and programs that foster individual emotional and physical health, strengthen personal and family relationships, and teach respect, honesty, caring and responsibility. Y SPACE is FREE with a family membership. Transportation is available from certain schools! Contact the Y for more information by calling 507-287-2260.

YMCA Swim Lessons
YMCA swimming lessons provide children with essential skills to be safe in and around water. In addition to building character and self-confidence, children learn about leadership, safety and rescue skills, and water activities. These important survival skills allow parents and children to enjoy a lifetime of both fun and healthy activity at pools, beaches and water parks. Swimming is also an ideal exercise for Baby Boomers and other older adults who want to maintain their fitness, but may need to give up high-impact or repetitive-motion activities such as running, cycling and aerobics. For more information about YMCA swim lessons or aquatic programs, contact the Y at 507-287-2260.

YMCA YOUTH SPORTS
Sign up for basketball at the Y starting at age 3 1/2 to 5th grade. Our fun sports leagues allow children to learn basic skills, sportsmanship, teamwork and Y values while having fun and not interfering with your family vacation schedule! The Y’s Youth Sports Philosophy is that everyone plays and everyone wins! Each player will receive a team t-shirt. Parent volunteer coaches are needed for each team. If you are interested in coaching, please indicate on your child’s registration form. All games are held at the Y on Saturdays. For more information and to register online, click here.

The Strong Kids Campaign helps us reach out to children and families who would otherwise be unable to participate in our values-filled programs. Y activities help children develop valuable skills, gain confidence, and build self-esteem. By contributing to the Strong Kids Campaign, you can help us teach these young people such important values as caring, honesty, respect & responsibility. It's a great way to improve Rochester's standard of living, learning, and thriving. To give your time, treasure, or talent, please contact Brenda at 287-2260 ext. 305 or email: BrendaK@rochfamy.orgDONATE NOW ONLINE!

Stephanie Heim, Y Volunteer was awarded the Steps Community Heroes Award Program for her work in creating our summer youth garden.  Steps Program volunteer and advocate Stephanie Heim used her passion for the community to exemplify good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Ms. Heim's contributions include leading a community youth garden project from conception to completion, developing educational resources on nutrition for community residents, and providing taste-testing classes using fresh fruits and vegetables. Working with key Steps partners, including the Rochester Area Family YMCA and Rochester Public Schools, Ms. Heim also facilitated the preparation and pilot testing of an after-school nutrition education program for middle school students at high risk for obesity and diabetes. Additionally, Ms. Heim implemented various art projects that helped beautify the community garden. Using a strategic approach, she worked with a skilled master gardener to design and create several aspects of the garden, including using the garden as a nutrition education resource.
